This month, MyMommyVents gives you an inside look at the lives of everyday moms who are juggling it all. From breastfeeding advocates and authors to designers, these women aren’t just changing diapers, they’re changing the world.

A mom’s work is never done, and for stay at home moms, there’s even more to do. In between raising her two sons Quincy, age 9, and Cameron, age 7, busy Bronx, NY mom Alexia Esannason finds the time to design and create custom invitations.

In the days of evites and Facebook invitations, it’s nice to receive something pretty in your mailbox. I met Alexia at the IM Pastry Studio launch party earlier this year, and was fascinated as she shared the details of an Easter invitation she was creating.

In 2011, Alexia began creating party invitations in her spare time.

“I started Noirstyle Invites because during my down time I did invites…for friends’ events and went all out for my kiddies [for] their birthdays and milestones… [I was] doing something I enjoyed.”

What began as a hobby turned into a full fledged custom invitation and event paperie that allows her to spend more time with her children.

“My youngest son, Cameron, was born with some health issues, and I was at the doctor’s about 3-4 days a week. It became too much to continue my full-time job as an executive assistant to a Global VP. I…enjoy the freedom of being able to work from home since my sons are still young. I’m very active in their school’s PTA as well as other school committees. Education is very important to me.”

Events begin with an invitation. They set the tone, whether they’re for a swanky soiree or a backyard BBQ.Think of the time you spend picking out your colors and fonts, making sure things look just right–Alexia loves those moments.

“I enjoy bringing special details to events with my paperie. Whether it’s the  invitation or other special touches in a client’s event, knowing I had a hand in making someone’s event extra special makes me happy! ”

Last year, Alexia decided to expand her brand, and opened an Etsy shop.

“As my talent has evolved so has my brand; I now create event logos, signage, corporate event branding, and every now and then, I love throwing a kids’ event, which is my new obsession…[In] my Etsy Shop,…you can find everything from invitations to party extras.”

She allows her creativity to lead her creations, inspired by the world around her.

“For custom work, my clients take the lead unless they give me total artistic freedom, but sometimes I may watch a movie or see something that inspires me and that is how I create items for my Etsy shop. Although I love weddings and formal events I truly enjoy creating special items for children.”

So how does this busy mom manage business and her boys?

“I work on my business when my boys are in school mostly, however I also work when they go to sleep. People often think that because I am a stay at home mom life is easier, but I feel like I never clock out. My office space is in my living room so it’s hard to ignore I have to pass it to go to every room in my home.”
