Carnage, bloodshed and gang violence have shaken my marriage and changed it dramatically. The sound of roaring motorcycles fills our home every Tuesday night.
My husband and I started watching Sons of Anarchy together earlier this year, and quickly became addicted. A friend had told us about the FX drama, but we had no idea what watching would do to our relationship.
The mastermind of Kurt Sutter, Sons of Anarchy is a crime drama centering around the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original (SAMCRO). The close knit California biker club exacts justice and keeps the town of Charming on its toes.
We began watching Sons on Netflix, and were instantly hooked by the underlying themes of love, brotherhood and family. We binge watched Seasons 2-4, setting aside time after the kids were in bed. Caught up in the world of Jax, Gemma, Juice, Tigs, Bobby Elvis, and Chibbs, we found ourselves putting down our smart phones and closing our laptops to spend an uninterrupted hour together watching the story of SAMCRO unfold.
As the parents of two children under five, we don’t have a lot of “traditional” date nights. The dedicated hour we spend together leads to an after show discussion and speculation about next week’s episode. It sounds funny, but a show about brutal bikers and their bond has actually strengthened our marital bond.
Sadly, SAMCRO’s #FinalRide was in 2015. Side by side on the couch, DaddyVents and I wore our matching Reaper t-shirts and cheered Jax on as he finished the battle his father began. We wondered, will good triumph in Charming? Will Jax meet Mr. Mayhem? Will Gemma finally meet her match? What will happen to the M.C.?
One thing is for sure, though. Don’t bug us during Sons of Anarchy, you might meet a little mayhem of your own. Catch all six seasons of Sons of Anarchy on Netflix.
