Make Your Dreams Reality With A Vision Board

July 1st is exactly 6 months away from the end of the year. There’s still time to make your dreams come true. It’s not too late to reach your goals! In January, I learned about vision boards and their power. Is it time for you to create your own vision board?

Did you keep any of the resolutions you made back in January? Did you save the money you said you were going to? Lose those last ten pounds? Clean out those closets? Yeah, me neither. But, I’ve got a plan in place.

At the Bloggin’ Mamas Pink and White NYC Night, I met the most amazing woman. She had this great energy about her, and we struck up a conversation about Mymommyvents, our children, and my new drink of choice, prosecco. Little did I know that the awesome woman racing Valerie and I to scroll to pictures of our children on our smartphones was the one and only Lucinda Cross, “Mama Activator.”

Haven’t heard of Lucinda? Well, she’s the founder of the Activate Conference, a one day experience designed to help women grow, lead, and achieve. Keke Palmer and Sherri Sheppard were this year’s opening speakers. She teaches women to activate their dreams. And, she’s featured on page 85 of the January issue of Essence magazine, discussing the power of a vision board!

What’s a vision board?

There’s been a lot talk on Facebook about vision boards lately. Rosetta Thurman of Happy Black Woman describes a vision board as “a powerful visualization tool that you can use as inspiration for your journey toward your ideal life.” Essentially, a vision board is the visual representation of your goals and dreams.

How’s a piece of poster board supposed to help me reach my goals?

Well, as Rosetta explains, a vision board is a “collage of pictures, words and quotes that serve to remind you of your passion and purpose.” Seeing your passion, purpose, hopes and dreams continually helps to motivate you to achieve them.

Does it really work?
You be the judge. Last year, Lucinda placed a picture of herself on Essence magazine’s January cover on her vision board. This year, she’s on page 85. What do you think?

Interested in making your own vision board?

Sammy Davis, YouTube star, vintage fashionista, and author of “Love Your Life: 7 Secrets to Using the Power of Positive Thinking and Law of Attraction to Create the Dream Life for You“, shares her tips for creating a vision board that really works on her EBay page. Sammy’s been able to do some pretty amazing things, from writing her book, to being on the Nate Berkus show, to meeting Sheryl Sandberg–so you should probably listen to her advice!

I created my own vision board at Lucinda’s Activate Your Vision Board Party in January. Look for events on your city, or create your own vision board with your family or a group of your girlfriends.

Check out Lucinda’s feature in the January 2015 issue of Essence for some helpful tips and ideas for your own vision board.
