Just when we thought the craziness of 2020 was over, 2021 kicked the door in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only six days into the new year, the country\u2019s peace was shattered. Not only did African Americans lose beloved novelist Eric Jerome Dickey, whose books impacted many of our college lives, many white Americans lost their minds.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the afternoon of January 6th, a crowd of sore losers in red hats and Daniel Boone-style caps gathered in Washington, DC as Congress was set to confirm America\u2019s newly-chosen leader, President-elect Joe Biden. The domestic terrorists\u00a0 joined together in support of their candidate, who had lost not only the popular vote, but also the electoral college. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The angry mob believed that the election had been stolen from them, that voter fraud ran rampant, and that the South would rise again. Encouraged by messages that their victory had been \u201cstolen by emboldened radical Left Democrats\u2026and the fake news media,\u201d they vowed that they would \u201c\u2026never give up\u2026never concede.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With American flags flying high and guns at their sides (but without masks), the violent rioters marched to the steps of Capitol Hill around 1pm, pushed past a smattering of Capitol Police, scaled the walls, and stormed the building, pausing Congress\u2019s count of the electoral votes. As they filled the halls, pouting because they hadn\u2019t gotten their way, senators and members of the House were confined to their chambers during a building lockdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid the chaos, a woman was shot and later died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By Wednesday evening, a 6pm curfew had been initiated\u2013but we had already seen the officer in riot gear politely helping a white woman in a Trump hat down the Capitol steps; watched the mob tear down the railing for the inauguration and throw it at officers, and hear the news report that 5 weapons had been seized and there were only 13 arrests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
